"Notable Men & Women of Illinois"
January 19, 2009: The theme of the Illinois State Society Inaugural Gala was "Notable Men and Women of Illinois." Getting into the fun spirit of the evening, high schoolers from across Illinois represented Illinois' real and fictional heroes. Included was a student from Metropolis dressed as Superwoman; students from Chester, where a favorite son invented the Popeye characters; and a student from Galena dressed as real-life American hero President Ulysses S. Grant.
